Some of the Grey’s Anatomy cast and crew will be participating in TOUGH MUDDER on April 17th to raise funds for the non-profit organization My Friend’s Place that helps the homeless youth of Los Angeles.

This initiative was started by actor Giacomo Gianniotti (Dr. Andrew DeLuca). Check out what he has to say about it and donate if you can here: GREY’S ANATOMY TOUGH MUDDER FOR “MY FRIENDS PLACE”

Justin spent the day at Disneyland on Saturday (March 5) and some fans took pics with him.

First and foremost I’d like to thank you for all your effort with this website. I’ve been coming here for several years now and been enjoying your posts greatly. I also follow your posts on twitter and always look through your entire tweets because I don’t have an account myself and keep following you via google. I have to congratulate you first for your incredible patience with some of the fans who tweet you nonsense. But I’ve also been seeing conversations with one fan (Meredith fan) who keeps sending you Jo hate and now went as far as writing she wants her to get killed off. It is none of my business to tell you how to interact with your followers but I want to kindly ask you not to encourage tweets like those. It’s very upsetting for fans to come across them and read so much hate. That’s why I love your account so much, you’re not one of those crazy fans who usually allows hate and encourages it. I’ve been seeing that person send you Jo hate for months now and I think while it’s true that she has been written poorly I think that Meredith’s behavior is worse. I not only think that she’s been horrible to Jo, but a pretty bad friend to Alex too. But she’s the main character and the writers write her like she’s always right which only affirms her fans. I personally am not very happy with the writing for Alex either as I miss him standing up for himself or for Jo. But I think blaming everything on Jo and acting like Meredith is the victim when Jo has put up with that horrible treatment for over two years on the show is not right either. That’s why I want to kindly ask you not to encourage that fan to send you more hate. I think it would be very sad for someone like Jo who went through severe childhood trauma and probably never had a happy life to be killed off just because that person thinks Alex deserves someone better. As a former foster children I understand her and Alex very well and can relate to both of them so well, which has made me a fan of their pairing in the first place. I can totally understand if people don’t like Jo but I think she has done nothing unredeemable either which is why the hate I keep seeing from that person is surprising and upsetting for me. I didn’t know how else to contact you and wanted to voice my plead politely. I’m sure I’m not the only person who reads your tweets regularly and I think that this amount of hate is not justified at all and very upsetting. Thank you for your hard work on this website again, I truly admire you. xoxo

When you say it’s none of your business to tell me how to interact with my followers, but then ask me to not interact with a certain follower while describing the reasons why it bothers you, then you are effectively telling me how to interact with my followers. You’re right on one thing, though. I don’t encourage hate, I encourage discussion. Discussion means hearing and respecting another person’s feelings and point of view and sharing my own. This exchange is what makes being a fan of a show fun and interesting (for me at least). I may not always agree with someone’s POV, but I respect it. For that reason, I reply to people who tweet me their feelings about the characters or show. As long as the person isn’t “trolling”, or being rude or disrespectful to me, I’ll reply or acknowledge that I saw their tweet in some way (retweet or “like”). I don’t like being ignored, so I try to not ignore people who took the time to share their feelings.

Jo isn’t going to get killed off because someone thinks Alex deserves better. Getting killed off, especially in a George-got-hit-by-a-bus kind of way (which is what that person said she would be okay with for Jo), has become a running gag in the fandom. I’m sure you saw that I made a joke about Alex being killed off in the season finale when the reports of Justin signing on for season 13 came out, and an Alex fan tweeted me that she hopes he does (as a joke). There are fans that think Jo deserves better than Alex, so what? He’s not going to be killed off over that. That’s the deal with ALL the couples past and present. There are always fans of one character who think their favorite deserves better than the other character. And there isn’t a single character that is universally loved or hated.

We’re talking about fictional characters on a TV show. Don’t take things so personally. Let people like/dislike whatever and whoever they want. Let people ship whatever characters they feel like shipping. Let people enjoy the show. Let people express their grievances. If other people’s opinions and feelings bother you, then don’t seek them out. In this specific case, that means you should stop going through my conversations if what someone tweets me is so upsetting for you. If a Meredith fan asked me to stop talking to a Jo fan because the fan said negative things about Mer, I wouldn’t agree to it. Same goes for fans of all the other the characters and couples on Grey’s. I’m not going to ignore people who tweet me.

By the way, I would rather you tweet me (we both know you have a Twitter account) than leave another “anonymous” message here at the site.

Hope all is well over there in Germany.

    -Diana
