Here is a sneak peek from this Thursday’s episode of Grey’s titled “Momma Knows Best.”

I’m going to leave Sarah Drew’s post here about The Rape Foundation brunch last Sunday because it’s a good read. She also talks about how she and Justin walked on stage to surprise a survivor who adopted April’s strategy with the hospital shooter (Grey’s Anatomy episode 6.24) against her own attacker.

On Sunday, I attended #therapefoundation annual brunch. It was a deeply moving experience. The founder of this incredible organization, #GailAbarbanel (5th pic) invited me to come to surprise one of the courageous survivors who told her story. This survivor believes that she may have saved her life by adopting a strategy from the moment in Greys Anatomy when April talked down the hospital shooter (Gary Clark). She took what she remembered from that moment and began to tell her attacker about her life – thus humanizing herself, and he let her go. After she spoke, @officialjustinchambers and I walked up on stage to surprise her and thank her for her courage and vulnerability. Listening to her story, and the stories of the other two survivors who were highlighted at the event showed me the power and the impact of storytelling. The story @shondarhimes Wrote had tremendous impact on this survivor’s life, and this survivor’s story had a tremendous impact on the lives of everyone in that room and beyond. I think storytelling is a powerful tool for creating empathy, building bridges, educating and igniting activism. I was absolutely blown away by the courage and the resiliance of the three survivors who spoke on Sunday. They are all simply amazing. The statistics surrounding sexual assault are staggering. 1 in 5 women are victims of rape. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before the age of 18. This is a horrific epidemic. The #Rapetreatmentcenter and #stuarthouse are both places to go where every need is met for victims of sexual assault completely free of charge. I am amazed by the work they are doing and was honored to have had the chance to participate in this fundraising event. I also had the chance to hang with @t.r.knight (who is just so wonderful) and my dear friend @officialjustinchambers . And it was beautiful to hear from @jennifer.garner Who was being honored as well.
