**Edited to add tweets from Justin’s Grey’s co-stars and showrunner.**

Justin received quite a bit of praise for his performance in the most recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy from co-workers and fans. Now TVLine has given him a well-deserved Honorable Mention for “Performer of the Week.” 👏👏 This is what they had to say:

null HONORABLE MENTION | Justin Chambers hit it out of the park in Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomy — and not just in that intense batting-cage scene, either. After Alex learned that his schizophrenic mom Helen had stopped cashing his checks because she was fine — better than fine, actually — his relief was tempered by disappointment: Helen didn’t want him around, lest he upset her routine. In a matter of seconds, Chambers deftly took Alex from disbelief to anger born of hurt. As he later unleashed that rage on a bunch of baseballs, explaining to Jo why Helen’s recovery now, when no one needed her anymore, was so infuriating, his portrayer gave the kind of real, raw performance that could only be described as a home run.

Justin’s co-stars, Jessica Capshaw and Camilla Luddington, as well as Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff, tweeted about the honorable mention. Check out their tweets below.

Lindsay Wagner was outstanding as Helen Karev, and she and Justin played off of each other so well. It really was a great to finally(!) meet Alex’s mom. If you missed it, or want to rewatch, here are most of Justin’s scenes in the episode.

I had already posted about The Hollywood Reporter doing a cast photo shoot to celebrate the 300th episode and asking them their favorite Grey’s Anatomy moment. That is all now in print and I added the magazine scans (including Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ full interview) to the photo archive. ABC and ABC Studios took out an ad to congratulate Grey’s and I added it to the archive, too.

The Hollywood Reporter visited the set of Grey’s Anatomy and did interviews and a photo shoot with the cast to celebrate the 300th episode milestone.

The cast was asked about their favorite Grey’s moment from 14 seasons, and Justin cryptically said this:

JUSTIN CHAMBERS* (Alex Karev)

The powerful stuff that’s coming up may be my favorite.

Back in July, the Grey’s Anatomy production went to Seattle to shoot some scenes for season 14. While there, some of the cast was interviewed by Seattle’s KOMO News.
I added photos of Justin being interviewed on the waterfront to the archive, and the album link is below.

KOMO News finally posted their report on Grey’s returning to the city to film. I uploaded the video report to Youtube (below) but it can also be watched at komonews.com.

Check out what Justin, Chandra Wilson, Kevin McKidd, Jesse Williams and Jason George had to say about Grey’s Anatomy and being in Seattle:

Here are Justin’s quotes from the article that accompanies the video at the source.

“It’s great to be back,” added Justin Chambers (“Alex Karev”). “Definitely an important character to the show, this city.”
(…)
“It’s a great blessing, getting to work with the people I want to work with, I get to play a character that’s fun and pay the bills. Can’t ask for anything more!” Justin said.
(…)
Justin told us, “Ellen’s great to work off of, there’s great chemistry there. I like that there’s sort of a sibling love for each other.” And as for romance rumors? “People project and see what they want to see, and that’s all in Shonda’s head. It will go where it goes anything is possible, as an actor my job is to fly with what’s written and justify it in my mind and I can do that.”

Last week’s episode of Grey’s marked Ellen Pompeo’s directorial debut. In an article posted by The Hollywood Reporter, Justin had this to say about Ellen as a director:

For his part, Grey’s co-star Justin Chambers (Alex) describes his longtime co-star as an “actor’s director” and notes that he’s proud of Pompeo for stepping behind the camera and taking on a greater leadership role with the series.

“She really seems like a natural,” he says. “Think about it: She’s been here for 13 seasons. She’s seen everyone come and go and worked with so many directors that she probably has taken something from everyone. And she knows these characters. I call her Girl Friday because she’s a smart woman and she can watch, sit back and take it all in and knows everyone so well.”

I’ve added screencaps to the gallery of Justin’s brief appearance in the most recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Entertainment Weekly posted an article in which Grey’s Anatomy‘s executive producer Debbie Allen says there’s a big chance that Jo’s estranged husband will be introduced. Justin also shares his thoughts on whether Alex would try to find Jo’s husband and Andrew DeLuca’s feelings for her.

Grey’s Anatomy: Jo’s estranged husband may finally get introduced

The moment Grey’s Anatomy fans have been waiting for may soon be on the horizon: meeting Jo’s estranged husband.

As revealed at the close of season 12, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) could not marry Alex (Justin Chambers) because she was already wed to an abusive man, whom she ran away from, changing her name in the process. Though Jo has been hiding from him this whole time, if she ever truly wants to be rid of him, she’ll need a divorce (or annulment!), meaning there’s a good chance he could soon come into the picture.

“There is a chance, a big chance,” executive producer Debbie Allen tells EW. “It’s the elephant in the room, the one piece that we have not been able to fit into the puzzle of why they have not been able to get married, what she’s been holding back and what she’s been dealing with. It gives us great story.” In fact, it’s potentially such a rich story line that Allen adds, “It can go all the way into next season, I can tell you that.”

The question remains whether Jo is actually ready to face her ex, or if Alex may put her in that position himself — after all, if he does want to properly propose, he could try to track down the man himself. “Possibly yes,” Chambers says. “Or maybe the guy comes back. He’s still out there. I don’t know yet. They’re still married, Alex is still in love with Jo, he wants to marry her, so that’s going to have to come to rest, that whole situation.”

After he nearly ended up in prison for beating up DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), would Alex take the high road with Jo’s ex, even though this man abused the woman he loves? “I would think he would be a little more cautious, but Alex always does things unpredictably, so we’ll see what happens,” Chambers says.

In the meantime, DeLuca will finally come to terms with his feelings for Jo, which should stir up new drama in the wake of last year’s finale. “The whole season has been teasing at that,” Gianniotti says. “He has tiptoed around how he feels about her, but he hasn’t directly said it. By the end of the season, we’re going to see him confront her and his feelings. I don’t know how it’s going to go for him. Nice guys often finish last, so we’ll see.”

This time around, however, it doesn’t look like things will get physical between Alex and DeLuca in the aftermath. “I don’t think he’s going to beat him up again,” Chambers says. “I think DeLuca is just going through a little spell, he just has a crush on her. There’s plenty of fish in the sea. Jo still loves Alex, so I think that’s where it’s at.”

Last Friday (March 24), Justin filmed Grey’s Anatomy episode 13.23 on location at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. The scenes he filmed were with actor Matthew Morrison (best known for playing Will Schuester on ‘Glee’) and the director was fellow Grey’s star, Kevin McKidd.

Matthew Morrison revealed in an Instagram story that he is playing a character named Dr. Paul Stadler and there’s speculation that he’s Jo’s husband. We’ll have to wait and see if that’s true or not. In the meantime, some BTS photos have been added to the gallery and I’ve embedded some of my tweets with the description & source of the pics. A video of Kevin directing a scene with Justin and Matthew is below as well.
