Tonight at 8/7c is the Grey’s Anatomy season 12 finale. Here are a few teasers of what is in store for Justin’s character, Alex Karev.

Camilla Luddington spoke to Entertainment Weekly and had this to say:

“What I love about this finale is whatever couple you’re a fan of, I feel like everyone has something huge going on,” Camilla Luddington concurs. “There’s something for everybody across the board. What I also like about it is there are really funny, exciting, happy notes, and there’s some really dark moments. For Alex [Justin Chambers] and Jo, Alex wants to know why it is a no. And he confronts her about why it is a no.”

Grey’s Anatomy’s Facebook page posted this surprising teaser from an Alex and Jo scene in the finale.

Actress Angelique Cabral, who played the mother of Alex and Meredith’s patient (Rhys) in this episode, posted this pic with Justin taken when they were filming.

In an interview published after episode 12.23 aired, Camilla Luddington (Dr. Jo Wilson) talks about Jo rejecting Alex’s proposal again and teases the season finale.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Two Marriage Proposals, One Death & Meredith’s New Man

What was your reaction to reading that Jo rejected Alex’s proposal — again?
I was super shocked. I really was expecting her to say yes. So far, we’ve seen them come closer, especially after she confronted him about Meredith. They seem to be getting along pretty well. Even the gun episode, I was expecting it to be a much bigger argument, but they solved that together. I was gearing up for a yes. I do think that she loves him and I do think she wants to be with him, so why is it a no? You’ll see in the finale a little more clarity because there has to be a reason for her saying no.

Is this the end for them? Can Alex take any more?
I think if you say no to a proposal and someone really does love you and wanted to get married, that usually ends things — especially because he has proposed twice. This is the third time. I always joke [to the writers], “Can I please say yes?” Because Justin is so cute and Alex is so cute and I don’t get it! If I had proposed to someone three times and they said no, I would think maybe something is not right.

What sort of fallout can we expect from this in next week’s finale?
Her saying no sort of makes them do a 180. You see that Alex is super frustrated by it and he’s heartbroken by that. It’s something that does not get glossed over in the finale.

This Thursday, season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy comes to an end. Below is the promo and the synopsis for the season finale titled “Family Affair.”

“Family Affair” – Meredith and Maggie support Amelia on an important day; Jo reveals that she has been keeping secrets from Alex while Arizona and Callie deal with the impact of their custody arrangement. Meanwhile, Ben leaps into action to help a friend, on “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, MAY 19 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) on the ABC Television Network.

Ahead of Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy airing, The Hollywood Reporter published an article about what’s keeping Alex and Jo from getting married. Ellen Pompeo said very nice things about Justin and the Alex and Jo (Jolex) pairing, and Camilla Luddington also chimed in on Jolex. Here’s an excerpt and the full article can be read at the source linked below.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: What’s Keeping Jo and Alex From Getting Married?

For her part, Pompeo hopes Jo and Alex are MFEO and is perhaps the couple’s biggest fan.

“I know that’s not happening right now,” Pompeo told THR of an Alex-Mer pairing during a recent set visit. As for Alex and Jo, the actress warned that there’s (shocker!) drama ahead for the couple. “I’m excited about that because I love those two and I want to see them get some good story and stuff to play,” she said. “Justin to me is an ace of diamonds. I love him so much. He’s so talented. He’s like a young Brando — he has everything and is so amazing. But I don’t know [about a romance with Meredith and Alex]; we’ll see.”

As for Luddington, she still has high hopes for Alex and Jo’s long-term romantic future together — despite two unsuccessful marriage proposals.

“She is crazy about him and in love with him,” Luddington says. “There’s always been a part of her that hopes to re-create what she never had — a safe home life and family — and I do think she dreams about doing that with Alex, but it’s super complicated and there are a lot of things that are preventing that from happening.”

This is basically just a transcript of Camilla Luddington’s Cosmopolitan interview that was posted in this update. Below are the parts where Justin is specifically mentioned.

Grey’s Anatomy Star Camilla Luddington Is Dying for Jo and Alex to Get Married and Have Babies

Is Jo ever going to say “yes” to Alex’s proposal?
I have been approved by ABC to say that “questions will be answered.” Whether it’s the question, who knows, but things will be revealed. Do you know what? When Justin and I rehearsed, because he’s proposed twice now, I always say “yes.” I always screw up the take and I’m like, “Yes!” And they’re like, “No.” ‘Cause he’s just so cute. How can you not say “yes” to Justin Chambers?

I’m just going to say, even though our readers will hate this, I want Meredith and Alex to be together.
[Gasps.] Get out! I mean, obviously I’m Team Jo. I think it’s nice that [Alex and Meredith] have a brother-sister relationship. Because you don’t see many relationships on TV that are just platonic. And Justin and Ellen [Pompeo, who plays Meredith] are like that in real life. They’re like family, so their chemistry works in that way. I feel like it would be incestuous if they got together. I can’t even picture them making out.

What’s Justin Chambers like in real life, because he’s a mystery?
Justin is absolutely hysterical … I don’t think he realizes he’s being funny half the time.

Is he very dad-like? ‘Cause he has, like, five kids.
No. I almost feel like he’s got a Johnny Depp vibe. Super cool. Like, [he] will come to the table read, and he’s in his hat and his cool sunglasses. If I did that, I would probably look douchey, but he can pull it off. He just makes everything look cool.

Justin’s friend, Kelley Sane, uploaded this photo to his Instagram account on Wednesday (May 11) where he’s with Justin and a few other friends at the famous Sheats-Goldstein Residence (Los Angeles) for some tennis.

So, it looks like season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy will end without any Justin interviews… However, his co-stars have been promoting the show and they have mentioned him. Camilla Luddington, in particular, also talks about the storyline she shares with Justin through their characters, Jo and Alex (Jolex), and teases what’s in store for them in the last two episodes of the season.

Note: The interviews were rather long, so I edited them down to just the parts that mention Justin and Alex/Jolex, but a link to the full interview is provided.

Filming on season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy wrapped this Thursday, May 5th. Cast and crew will now enjoy the hiatus and start work on season 13 in July. Below are pics taken after wrapping and posted by Grey’s executive producer and director, Debbie Allen, and actor Giacomo Gianniotti (Dr. Andrew DeLuca).

Check out Justin’s Grey’s Anatomy co-star Camilla Luddington’s interview on Access Hollywood Live. She talks about Jo and Alex’s relationship, the season finale, and see why host Billy Bush calls Justin a “silent assassin.” LOL

The contracts of the original cast of Grey’s (including Justin) that were signed in 2014 are up at the end of this season. This Entertainment Weekly article doesn’t really give any new information about the status of the contract renegotiations, but I thought some people might be interested in reading about how well the show is doing in its 12th season. A small excerpt is below, and the full article can be read at the link.

Grey’s Anatomy stars are seeking raises again

How’s this for timing: Just as Grey’s Anatomy prepares to wrap its 12th season as ABC’s No. 1 drama, contracts for several of the show’s stars, including Ellen Pompeo, are set to expire in June.

The Shondaland crown jewel is not only besting its younger siblings Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder in the ratings, it’s also the second-most-popular drama on broadcast TV among women 18–34 (behind Fox hit Empire). That has to be great news for agents representing Pompeo (Meredith), Chandra Wilson (Bailey), Sara Ramirez (Callie), Kevin McKidd (Owen), Justin Chambers (Alex) and James Pickens, Jr. (Richard), all of whom will likely use the show’s stellar performance to push for higher salaries.

(…) If you combine the drama’s ratings with how well it does on platforms like video on demand and online viewing, Grey’s is actually up 6 percent this season versus last among adults 18–49 and has seen an increase of 11 percent among women 18–34.
