The panel can also be watched on Youtube from the embedded the video below. The panel can also be watched from the embedded Facebook video below. There’s some really interesting discussion and insight about Grey’s from the cast & executive producer, Debbie Allen, so I recommend watching it.
Also (and once again), I’ve been getting a lot of people tweeting me that they loved watching and hearing Justin on the PaleyFest panel and wish he did more press interviews. Watch the video and see why. 😂😂
FYI, the panel consists of: Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr, Kevin McKidd, Jessica Capshaw, Sarah Drew, Jesse Williams, Caterina Scorsone, Kelly McCreary, Jerrika Hinton, Jason George, Martin Henderson, Giacomo Gianniotti and Debbie Allen. Moderator was Henry Goldblatt, Editor-in-chief of Entertainment Weekly.
On March 27th, 2005 a show about five surgical interns premiered on ABC. Twelve years later, many things have changed but that show is still going strong. Congratulations to the cast and crew of Grey’s Anatomy on 12 years of success. 😍🙌🎉🍾 It’s pretty crazy that it has been that long!
Special congrats to our favorite OG cast member: Justin Chambers. Grey’s definitely wouldn’t be the same without Alexander Michael Karev and no one could play him better than you. 💙👏
★ Entertainment Weekly posted an article in which Grey’s Anatomy‘s executive producer Debbie Allen says there’s a big chance that Jo’s estranged husband will be introduced. Justin also shares his thoughts on whether Alex would try to find Jo’s husband and Andrew DeLuca’s feelings for her.
The moment Grey’s Anatomy fans have been waiting for may soon be on the horizon: meeting Jo’s estranged husband.
As revealed at the close of season 12, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) could not marry Alex (Justin Chambers) because she was already wed to an abusive man, whom she ran away from, changing her name in the process. Though Jo has been hiding from him this whole time, if she ever truly wants to be rid of him, she’ll need a divorce (or annulment!), meaning there’s a good chance he could soon come into the picture.
“There is a chance, a big chance,” executive producer Debbie Allen tells EW. “It’s the elephant in the room, the one piece that we have not been able to fit into the puzzle of why they have not been able to get married, what she’s been holding back and what she’s been dealing with. It gives us great story.” In fact, it’s potentially such a rich story line that Allen adds, “It can go all the way into next season, I can tell you that.”
The question remains whether Jo is actually ready to face her ex, or if Alex may put her in that position himself — after all, if he does want to properly propose, he could try to track down the man himself. “Possibly yes,” Chambers says. “Or maybe the guy comes back. He’s still out there. I don’t know yet. They’re still married, Alex is still in love with Jo, he wants to marry her, so that’s going to have to come to rest, that whole situation.”
After he nearly ended up in prison for beating up DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), would Alex take the high road with Jo’s ex, even though this man abused the woman he loves? “I would think he would be a little more cautious, but Alex always does things unpredictably, so we’ll see what happens,” Chambers says.
In the meantime, DeLuca will finally come to terms with his feelings for Jo, which should stir up new drama in the wake of last year’s finale. “The whole season has been teasing at that,” Gianniotti says. “He has tiptoed around how he feels about her, but he hasn’t directly said it. By the end of the season, we’re going to see him confront her and his feelings. I don’t know how it’s going to go for him. Nice guys often finish last, so we’ll see.”
This time around, however, it doesn’t look like things will get physical between Alex and DeLuca in the aftermath. “I don’t think he’s going to beat him up again,” Chambers says. “I think DeLuca is just going through a little spell, he just has a crush on her. There’s plenty of fish in the sea. Jo still loves Alex, so I think that’s where it’s at.”
★ Last Friday (March 24), Justin filmed Grey’s Anatomy episode 13.23 on location at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. The scenes he filmed were with actor Matthew Morrison (best known for playing Will Schuester on ‘Glee’) and the director was fellow Grey’s star, Kevin McKidd.
Matthew Morrison revealed in an Instagram story that he is playing a character named Dr. Paul Stadler and there’s speculation that he’s Jo’s husband. We’ll have to wait and see if that’s true or not. In the meantime, some BTS photos have been added to the gallery and I’ve embedded some of my tweets with the description & source of the pics. A video of Kevin directing a scene with Justin and Matthew is below as well.
★ More PaleyFest interviews! During the Grey’s Anatomy panel, Justin was asked who Alex should be with: Jo or Meredith. TV Guide posted an article with a summary of Justin’s answer.
It’s the question that’s been haunting Grey’s Anatomy fans for all of Season 13: Should Alex (Justin Chambers) be with Jo (Camilla Luddington) or Meredith (Ellen Pompeo)?
On one hand, Jo is the woman that Alex is currently in love with and the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with before he beat up DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and put their relationship on ice. On the other hand, Meredith is his oldest and closest friend. The two OG surgeons have been through thick and thin together and have grown extremely close since Cristina (Sandra Oh) left.
It’s ultimately up to the writers as to who Alex will eventually find happiness with, but Chambers weighed in on the matter Sunday during the Grey’s Anatomy panel at PaleyFest, an annual festival celebrating television.
“I think anything is possible, especially on Grey’s, you know what I mean?,” Chambers said after he was asked by moderator Henry Goldblatt of Entertainment Weekly which woman Alex should be with. “He might end up with Catherine [Avery]. I’d like to see Alex flesh out his relationship with Jo.”
Even though Chambers wants Alex to work it out with his current love, even he can’t deny there’s potential for Alex and Meredith to become more than just being each others’ person.
“People who have been friends for one another can become lovers. You never know,” he concluded.
Fans who have been clamoring for the original cast members to explore a romantic relationship should be happy that resurrection from the dead isn’t possible on Grey’s, though. Later in the panel Chambers was asked by a fan which deceased characters he would like to be able to bring back from the dead. His answer: McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey) and McSteamy (Eric Dane). If raising the dead were possible, it would probably make it impossible for Alex and Meredith to end up together.
★ Justin was also asked on the red carpet by Entertainment Tonight about a potential Alex and Meredith romance and he talked about being excited to see what happens with Jo and Alex. Check out what he had to say in the article below and then watch the short video clip.
Could Alex Karev and Meredith Grey become romantically involved on Grey’s Anatomy?
ET caught up with Grey’s star Justin Chambers, who has played Alex since the series debuted in 2005, at PaleyFest in Los Angeles on Sunday, where he revealed where he stands on Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Alex’s romantic outlook.
“I think anything is possible,” Chambers told ET, referring to their ship name, “Merlex.” “I think friends can become lovers like that, that’s possible too.”
Chambers explained why he was OK with where Alex and Meredith currently stand and further elaborated on his preference for them to remain in the friend zone.
“I’m very comfortable with them being platonic — like brother and sister, and friends. I think that suits them better,” the 45-year-old actor said, leaving the door slightly ajar if a romance were to spark up. “But hey, who knows? Nobody knows how things go, you know? I was friends with my wife before we started dating.”
“They have been friends a long time though,” Chambers continued. “Alex and [Meredith] have come up together and I don’t know, [it’d be] a little weird, but anything is possible.”
Complicating matters is Alex’s complex relationship with his ex, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), with whom he’s been on the outs since beating up Andrew DeLuca (Giancarlo Giannotti) and nearly finding himself behind bars.
“I’m excited to see what happens with him and ‘Jolex,’” Chambers said of their unclear future. “I think they really love each other. I know they have a lot of obstacles to go through but it will be interesting to see what conflicts, fires they can put out.”
“Merlex and then Jolex, we’ll see what happens,” he teased.

★ In this red carpet interview with Access Hollywood, Justin talks about knowing Ellen Pompeo for 25 years and feeling very comfortable working and being around her. He also shares his hopes for Jo and Alex.
The cast of Grey’s Anatomy attended PaleyFest last Sunday and now lots of new things keep coming out (it’s getting hard to keep track of and organize). I’m working on having the professional photos up soon, as well as fan photos and videos. Keep checking back for that. In the meantime, here are a couple of red carpet interviews from E! News.
★ In this first video, the cast talks about Grey’s long run. Justin appears at around 1:12.
★ In this video, the cast talks about how much longer they think Grey’s will run. Justin appears at around the 0:12 timestamp.
★ Justin isn’t in this video but his co-star Ellen Pompeo talk about.
At the 0:47 timestamp, the reporter says that one of the best storylines of the season has been Meredith & Alex and asks what Ellen loves about that because she’s been doing it for 13 years. Ellen says:
Yeah, well, Justin Chambers and I have an extraordinary bond. We’re really good friends and, you know, I love him more than anything, so any chance I get to work with him or have scenes with him is a fun day.
★ And to end this update, Justin’s best friend Matheos posted this pic with him on his Instagram today.
★ Ellen Pompeo posted another video on her Instagram with footage from Grey’s Anatomy episode 13.18 “Be Still, My Soul” which marks her directorial debut. The video focuses on Justin and Ellen and she wrote a very sweet caption about him and their friendship. Check out the caption and video below.
★ Martin Henderson, who plays Dr. Nathan Riggs on Grey’s, did a Facebook Live Q&A on Thursday along with actors Joe Morton (Scandal) and Jay Hayden (The Catch). Full Q&A can be watched HERE.
Martin was asked which character he would like Nathan to be friends with and he said Alex because he loves Justin so much and liked working with him. This is a clip with his answer:
