9.09 – Run, Baby, Run

The next original episode of Grey’s will only be airing on January 10, 2013. This is the promo for episode 9.10 “Things We Said Today”.

A few months ago, the thousands of members of Television Without Pity voted Alex Karev the Most Wrongly Underused Character and the Most Redemptive Character on a Sucky Show (LOL) in their Annual Tubey Awards which award the Best and Worst of the previous TV season. Now, the staff of Television Without Pity has published their Year in Review 2012 list where they’ve named Justin one of TV’s Most Valuable Performers.

If season 9 of Grey’s Anatomy continues going the way it has so far, I predict Justin and his character Alex will be winning these same awards next year…

Camilla Luddington, who plays intern Jo Wilson on Grey’s Anatomy, gave a few interviews this past week where she discusses the relationship between Jo and Alex and working on the show among other things. On working with Justin, she said:

Though things might be pretty awful for Jo right now, Luddington on the other hand is having a great time working with her new castmates. In particular, she finds the scenes she does with Chambers quite hilarious.

“Justin is so different from Karev in real life.” Luddington said. “He’s just a nice, friendly guy. The second he gets on camera and turns on that ‘asshole,’ it’s actually very funny to me.”

9.08 – Love Turns You Upside Down

Here are the ABC and CTV promos for next Thursday’s episode of Grey’s, “Run, Baby, Run”, which is also the Winter finale.

I decided to create an album for the behind the scenes/on set pics that aren’t officially released by ABC but are posted by the cast and the guest stars, etc. So far, I’ve only created an album for season 9 but eventually I’ll create albums for the previous seasons.

Before I get to the usual update of screencaps and the promo for the next episode of Grey’s, I’m going to post two Justin mentions from cast member Sarah Drew (April Kepner) who live-tweeted during Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Next Thursday episode 9.08 “Love Turns You Upside Down” airs. Below is the episode synopsis and the promo.

“Love Turns You Upside Down” – The new batch of interns find themselves involved in all the drama at Seattle Grace: Meredith asks Heather to go above and beyond to help fix Derek’s hand; Cristina starts a healthy competition between Stephanie and Leah, which inadvertently leads to a medical emergency for Cristina’s patient; Alex sees Jo in a new light as they work to save a baby’s life, and April teaches Shane a valuable lesson during “lumps and bumps” duty, on “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

With the Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Eighth Season about to be released on DVD, we chat to series regular Justin Chambers.

What is the focus for your character, Alex Karev, in Season Eight?

Alex concentrates on being a better surgeon in Season Eight. He’s also a bit of an outcast because he was the rat who ratted out Meredith, so he has to deal with those issues, too. I think there were some good lessons for Alex to learn this season.
There were certain obstacles that came between some of the doctors, but they’ve been together for so long that now’s the time to lay the cards on the table and explain everything.
All of the characters in the show are flawed, which means watching them trying to work through things is very interesting. It’s fun to watch and it deepens their friendships, too.
The show is all about the trials and tribulations of being interns in a hospital, and it works!

What is Alex’s biggest flaw?

I think that he runs away from his issues and his fears. He can’t make commitments and sometimes he tries to take the easy way out.
I don’t necessarily consider him a cheater but if he can take the shortcut, he will do that despite the fact that it usually bites him in the nose.
In all honesty, I think his biggest flaw is not being able to make a commitment. When he commits to someone – like with Lucy who ended up stabbing him in the back – it reinforces the message, ‘I should stay home. I don’t want to mature; I don’t want to grow up.’ I think that’s his biggest failing.

What would you like to see happen to Alex in the show in the future?

I would like to see his mom and dad, and I would like to see more of his relationship with his brother. I would also like to see him happy again in a relationship, and I would like to see him become a really good doctor.
However, if all this happened then the series would be over and there wouldn’t be anything left to write about, and I definitely don’t want that to happen.
When the show finally ends, I’d love to see everything resolved for Alex – but not for now. It’s fun to find out what’s going to happen to him next.
