More interviews celebrating the 200th episode of Grey’s Anatomy have come out!

The Hollywood Reporter asked the cast of Grey’s what the 200 episode milestone means for them, what most surprised them about their character and what their hopes are for a potential 300th episode. Here is what Justin had to say:

On 200: It’s been such a blessing to have a job for that long, to work with people I enjoy. To see all the ups and downs we’ve had and how we’ve gotten through it and enjoy it and continue to entertain people. The longer it goes, the more I realize how fortunate we are to have had this success.

What surprised him about Alex: Letting Izzie go like that after how much he fought to keep the marriage going and then realizing that they weren’t going to be together. Letting her go at the end was an interesting twist and surprised me. It was very adult for Alex. He’s emotionally stunted. When they got married is when he started to really grow up, but he regressed after that ended. I think Jo might get him to step up to the plate again and mature a bit.

Where Alex should be at 300: He should be a very good doctor; maybe do something in pediatrics that will revolutionize medicine. I’d like him to have more of a sense of self and self-security. To know who he is and how he handles relationships. I think he’s one of the characters on the show who’s really seen the light.

Glamour magazine’s site posted a Q&A with the cast and the answers are both funny and enlightening. Here’s a small excerpt:

Who has the most difficulty memorizing medical jargon?

Sarah Drew (Dr. April Kepner): Justin Chambers! Honestly, you can see it in every blooper reel in every season! There’s five minutes devoted to him saying, “What’s my line?!” We all die laughing.
Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey): Oooh, he’s gonna kill me, but maybe Kevin McKidd.
Justin Chambers (Dr. Alex Karev): Besides me? Gosh, I think it’s me. I’m on an island all my own.
James Pickens Jr. (Dr. Richard Webber): Patrick [Dempsey]. I would say Patrick.
Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt): Justin! And me too! We’re kinda equal!
Sara Ramirez (Dr. Callie Torres): Ellen [Pompeo]. Actually, Justin Chambers is a better answer. He makes an entire commentary about what’s happening. He’ll say things like, “So much for my Emmy!”

Which cast member is always in need of caffeine?

Sarah Drew: It was Eric Dane, but now it’s Justin Chambers.
Chandra Wilson: Justin Chambers!
Justin Chambers: Me! I do Red Bulls all day!
Camilla Luddington: Justin! He drinks about five Red Bulls throughout the day, I’m not even kidding.
James Pickens Jr.: Probably Justin Chambers! His motor has to rev up, haha.
Kevin McKidd: It used to be Kim Raver. She’s a big caffeine drinker. I have to cut myself off at noon, otherwise I’ll be up all night, but she’d still be drinking it at 5, 6, 7 P.M. I don’t know how you do that!
Sara Ramirez: Patrick [Dempsey]. The racer!

Grey’s Anatomy: Will Alex’s Relationship with Jo Suffer When His Dad Suddenly Returns?

While Grey’s Anatomy celebrates 200 episodes with a fundraising gala to help save Grey Sloan Memorial, Thursday’s episode (9/8c, ABC) will be far from a party for the characters. In particular, Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) will get quite a shock when his father (Dexter’s James Remar) resurfaces after 20 years.

“The last time he saw his father, he was abusing his mom, and Alex had beat the crap out of him,” Chambers tells TVGuide.com. “So this revisit is going to be very interesting to see what happens.”

Of course, his father’s return comes at a time when the once-cocky doctor has found himself in a new relationship with Jo (Camilla Luddington). “Alex has always been emotionally [backward], so whenever he starts to step out a little bit and feel secure, something happens and then he’s pulled back in,” Chambers says. “I think [his father’s arrival is] going to make them strong, because she comes from a similar background — not the best childhood. They’re going to be able to lean on each other, and she’s going to help him hopefully get through it.”

After years of being hurt or let down by women, Alex has finally met his match, according to Chambers. “She’s someone who understands where he’s coming from,” he says. “She can call him on things, so it’s going to make their relationship deeper.”

Still, Alex’s father may not be the only obstacle they have to face once Alex’s friends see that he’s getting serious with Jo. “There’s going to be some tension just because Jo’s a little bit more outspoken,” Luddington says. “There’s always that interesting relationship that happens with the women who are the friends in your life and then the girlfriend who comes in and tries to integrate into somebody’s life. I think that will cause tension during this season.“

The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes and at the end of the interview the Grey’s cast say what their favorite episode of the show has been. For Justin:

Camilla Luddington, left, takes direction from director Rob Corn as her on-screen love interest Justin Chambers looks on. In the 200th, Alex invites Jo to the gala because, as Luddington says, “He doesn’t want to schmooze with rich people, which is Jo’s nightmare too.

“He is bringing her to help him and he is abandoning her throughout the whole episode,” she says. “He’s running away and he’s not present, and she’s feeling super stressed about it. So even in that tension between them I feel so invested in their relationship it breaks my heart to see them having problems.”

Luddington’s co-star Justin Chambers thinks Alex and Jo are really MFEO. “Sometimes it’s not about opposites attracting. Sometimes you need to be cut from the same cloth to move forward,” he says. “I think that they understand each other really well, but I think that she adds an excitement to him — a spark.”

Laughter at Grey Sloan Memorial?

Gaius Charles, Sarah Drew and Justin Chambers share a light moment between takes. Chambers is one of only a handful of original stars left on the Shonda Rhimes medical drama and believes departing co-star Sandra Oh should wind up “running a hospital somewhere.

“She should find happiness even if it’s through work,” he says.

ABC released the promotional stills from the October 24th episode of Grey’s Anatomy titled “Map of You”. The episode synopsis and link to the promotional still are below.

“Map of You” – Derek and Callie work on a brain mapping project, Richard encourages the interns to use his physical condition as a learning tool and after a discussion with Callie, Meredith considers continuing her mother’s research. Meanwhile, Shane continues to feel guilty about Heather’s death, on “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

10.06 – Map of You

The New York Post was on the set of Grey’s Anatomy as the cast was filming its 200th episode.

It is the 200th episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” and the actors are clearly celebrating the milestone.

“My kids are getting to college age,” says Justin Chambers, who plays the perpetually single Dr. Alex Karev, but in real life is a father of five. “Thank God I can pay for it.”

What has been some of Justin’s favorite moments on Grey’s?

“I had a lot of great stuff with Izzie [Katherine Heigl] — the proposal scene, picking her up off the bed when Denny [Jeffrey Dean Morgan] died, and being there for her when she was dying, fighting the weaknesses and insecurities. I remember on that bed, trying to revive her, it felt good as an actor can feel. I love Katie. She is a doll, and she was a pro, always on her mark; a great talent.”

As to Jessica Capshaw (Dr. Arizona Robbins) some of her favorite moments are:

“For me, it is all my lovely moments with Sara [Ramirez] and Justin [Chambers] and particularly the beginning when Callie and Arizona are getting into a relationship.”

In an article posted online by TV Guide about the 200th episode of Grey’s Anatomy which airs next Thursday, October 10, Justin and Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes had this to say about Alex’s story line:

It’s Alex (Justin Chambers) — finally stable and happy, thanks to his relationship with Jo (Camilla Luddington) — however, who gets the biggest shock, when his estranged junkie dad (Dexter’s James Remar, beginning a multi­episode arc) suddenly appears early in the season. “It’s very emo­tional,” Rhimes says. “It’s a chance for Alex to figure out who he is as a man.”

Adds Chambers, “The next few episodes are kind of heavy for Alex, but Jo’s going to help him through it.” Or maybe not. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this show,” he adds with a laugh, “it’s that things can change on a dime!”

At the Grey’s Anatomy 200th Episode Party, the cast spoke a bit about what to expect in season 10 and the 200th episode, specifically. When it comes to Alex and his relationship with Jo:

3. Jo and Alex [Justin Chambers] will have communication problems and he gets a special visit.

“For Jo and Alex, it’s a lot of development in their relationship, kind of getting to know each other and communication seems to be one of their big problems,” Luddington said. “So, they have to learn to communicate and that’s something you see a lot at the beginning of this season.”

“The 200th episode. There is a gala and it’s a little bit crazy inside. Jo has been invited by Alex and he’s sort of ignoring her all night ’cause he doesn’t want to be there,” she added. “They kind of butt heads all evening and that’s where their communication problems come out, they realize, at that gala.”

Meanwhile, Chambers told Lieu, “They’ll be someone from Alex’s past visiting.”
