Season 14 of Grey’s Anatomy returns this Thursday with episode 14.09 titled “1-800-799-7233” (the number for the National Domestic Violence Hotline). Here’s a small sneak peek:
★ Next Thursday (Jan. 18) is the midseason premiere of Grey’s Anatomy. The episode title was “Four Seasons in One Day” but has now changed to “1-800-799-7233” which is the National Domestic Violence Hotline. The synopsis and promo below make it evident why that number is relevant.
“1-800-799-7233” – Jo finally faces her estranged, abusive husband Paul Stadler, while Grey Sloan continues to work with the FBI after a hacker has compromised the hospital’s computer system, on the midseason return of “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, JAN. 18 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.
Guest starring is Matthew Morrison as Paul Stadler, Bethany Joy Lenz as Jenny and Stefania Spampinato as Carina DeLuca.
“1-800-799-7233” was written by Andy Reaser and directed by Bill D’Elia.
“Grey’s Anatomy” stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jessica Capshaw as Arizona Robbins, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, Sarah Drew as April Kepner, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce, Jason George as Ben Warren, Martin Henderson as Nathan Riggs and Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca.
★ As I mentioned in the previous update, ABC launched this week a six-episode webseries called “Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team”. Embedded below is the webisode Justin makes an appearance in (Episode Two). The other webisodes can be watched on Youtube from this ABC Network playlist.
★ Lastly, filming has resumed on season 14 of Grey’s and here’s a boomerang with Justin, Camilla Luddington and their co-worker Ashley who posted it.
Beginning this Thursday, ABC will be posting episodes of a new web series called “Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team,” and Justin will be making an appearance as his character, Alex. This is what was reported by People:
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that ABC and Shondaland are bringing you a six-episode web series, Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team. The full show, which follows the latest batch of newbie doctors as they navigate their way through Grey Sloan Memorial, will be available for streaming on ABC.com and the ABC app starting Thursday.
Written by Barbara Kaye Friend with series regular Sarah Drew making her directorial debut, the digital series focuses on the new interns’ first day as surgeons forced to tackle the pressures of high-stakes medicine and difficult patients under the watchful and stern eye of Chandra Wilson‘s Chief Bailey.
Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team stars Sophia Taylor Ali (Dahlia Qadri), Jake Borelli (Levi Schmitt), Alex Blue Davis (Casey Parker), Jaicy Elliot (Taryn Helm), Rushi Kota (Vik Roy) and Jeanine Mason (Samantha “Sam” Bello).
The series will also include appearances by Justin Chambers (Alex Karev), Kelly McCreary (Maggie Pierce), Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber).
Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team goes live Thursday on the ABC app and ABC.com.
Yesterday, Sarah Drew and the actors that play the new interns did a Facebook Live session on the Grey’s Anatomy page (watch it HERE), and it included this sneak peek of a scene from the web series with Alex and interns Sam Bello and Levi Schmitt (aka Glasses).

★ Here’s some interesting Grey’s Anatomy news. An upcoming episode, which will be directed by Ellen Pompeo, will flash back to Alex’s turbulent teenage years. I always love when Grey’s explores Alex’s backstory and hopefully this means Justin will get some great material, so I’m excited. Check out what TV Line reported below.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Pompeo is poised to step behind the camera later this season to direct another episode of the long-running ABC drama. This will mark the actress’ second Grey’s directing stint; she helmed last season’s 18th episode, “Be Still, My Soul,” which revolved around the death of Maggie’s (Kelly McCreary) mother.
Pompeo’s latest directing effort may prove to be equally as heavy.
Although the script is still being finalized and therefore is subject to change, sources tell TVLine that a portion of the episode will flash back to Alex’s (Justin Chambers) turbulent teenage years. Per Grey’s canon, Alex spent much of his childhood coping with a drug-addict father and schizophrenic mother (the latter of whom he had committed). He made his way through more than a dozen foster homes, spent time in juvenile detention and lost his virginity to a nurse at his high school at 15. Suffice it to say, the episode will have no shortage of ground to cover.
Producers are looking to bring in a different actor to play Young Alex.
Pompeo is slated to begin work on the episode in January, with an air date likely falling in March/April. Grey’s is set to resume its current 14th season on Jan. 18.
★ Back in August, Justin attended Sheila E’s live performance and release party for her album “Iconic: Message 4 America” at the Conga Room in Los Angeles. Below is a photo posted by Grey’s Anatomy crew member Bryan Mendoza from that night and besides him it also features Justin, James Pickens Jr, Jason George and MC Lyte.
★ Bonus video because it’s funny: Justin at the Chateau Marmont in August taking selfies with fans. I’d say this fan speaks for all of us when she says she’s glad Shonda Rhimes hasn’t killed him (Alex). Justin’s reaction to that is pretty great.😂
★ Jaicy Elliot, who plays the new intern named Taryn Helm that worked with Alex in the midseason finale, posted this cute pic with Justin on the set of Grey’s.
★ There is still no information about the midseason premiere of Grey’s (episode 14.09) airing on Jan. 18th aside from the title which is “Four Season in One Day”. ABC aired a teaser promo for the return of the show and it can be watched below (it doesn’t have any new scenes).
This Thursday airs the last Grey’s Anatomy episode of 2017. The episode is titled “Out of Nowhere,” and the synopsis and promo are below. ETA: A sneak peek has been added below, too.
“Out of Nowhere” – A hacker compromises the hospital’s computer system, causing monitors, phones, labs and patient files to all go down. As technology fails them, Bailey attempts to keep the peace but chaos erupts and the doctors are forced to get creative in their methods to treat the patients, on the fall finale of “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, NOV. 16 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network.
