Giacomo Gianniotti (Andrew DeLuca) & Jerrika Hinton (Stephanie Edwards) were interviewed by Screener. Jerrika teased that the midseason finale of Grey’s Anatomy (Nov. 17) reaches “fever pitch,” and Giacomo talked about how Justin and James Pickens, Jr. (Richard Webber) have helped him transition to a full-time member of the tight-knit Grey’s cast.
Full interview can be read the source, below are the excerpts related to the aforementioned topics.

Screener: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ stars tease ‘fever pitch’ midseason finale

null“Grey’s Anatomy” stars Jerrika Hinton and Giacomo Gianniotti have divulged that things are about to reach “fever pitch” as the show nears its midseason finale. The venerable ABC drama is still reeling from the fallout of Alex’s (Justin Chambers) brutal attack on Andrew (Gianniotti) — and as the characters prepare for a court trial, things are set to reach a dramatic high.

“Oh, the trial … wow!” Hinton teases during an interview with Screener. “We just had the table read for the midseason finale the other day, and that reaches a fever pitch.”

[…]

“Both [James Pickens, Jr.] and Justin Chambers are veterans of the show and have given me a lot of advice on how to jump onto this very fast-moving train and not take it too seriously. Often as actors we fall into the trap of takings things too seriously and giving them too much weight, when really if we just step back, the circumstances are enough and we should just let the audience see what’s happening. They’ve both given me a lot of great acting lessons.”

Caterina Scorsone (Amelia Shepherd) gave several interviews last week and she spoke a bit about Amelia and Alex’s relationship and his relationship with Meredith as well. Check it out below.

The Hollywood Reporter: Caterina Scorsone Opens Up About Amelia and Owen’s Rift

THR: Alex is inspired to have family breakfasts — with Amelia included. As Amelia is trying to run from her trauma, how might Amelia respond to these get-togethers? It almost sets the stage for something like this to come out.

Caterina: Maybe! One thing that was a really amazing discovery for Amelia was that she was able to say the unsayable thing to Alex. And she’s wanted to say it to Owen this whole time; she wanted to say it to Derek; she wanted to say it to Meredith; and she was not able to tell them. It was too hard. And for some reason, in that moment, in that room with Alex — who has his own demons and is dealing with his own marginalization and his own childhood stuff and emotional disregulation at times — in that moment, she was able to say the thing that she has not been able to say. That was a bit of a revelation for her: there is at least one person in the world that she was able to speak to about that thing. Alex wanting to include her, Amelia seems to find him to be a safe place. And that’s nice. Justin and I haven’t had much together so far so this is a new acting partner in some ways. We’ve been in group scenes together but haven’t had a lot of one-on-one. It’s nice that these two wounded characters are finding a way to talk to each other.

THR: Speaking of Alex, there’s a strong contingent of viewers who see Alex and Meredith as MFEO, to use Shondaland speak. The scene at the end of the episode with them together — in bed — really seemed like that could be a real thing. What’s your take on them together romantically?

Caterina: They’re two of the original characters so everybody wants whatever is going to make them the most happy. I don’t know if it’s end game romantically but they will definitely be in each other’s lives forever. But again, just like every other fan in Shondaland, I cannot predict what she could possibly be wanting to spin for the very end. We don’t know how long the show will go on! There have been so many potential end games that came and went because the show just keeps going. So who knows!

TV Line: Caterina Scorsone on Owen’s ‘Dangerous’ Love and Amelia’s Changing Relationship With Alex

TVLINE | Does this change Amelia and Alex’s relationship going forward?

Caterina: I think it does. She kind of sees him as someone who might possibly understand her feelings of shame and unlovability. She knows that, of everyone in the hospital, he’s got some demons like she does, and he’s been on the periphery. Right now, he’s actually on the periphery in terms of being stuck in the clinic and having this court case going on. So he might get her in a way that a lot of the other doctors who are so fantastic and sunshiny might not.

Entertainment Weekly’s Spoiler Room

As Alex’s trial nears, how will that start to divide the hospital on Grey’s Anatomy?

If a divide does start to happen, Alex will have at least two of the sisters on his side. “Clearly Amelia is starting to feel really safe with Alex in a way that’s unexpected,” Caterina Scorsone says. “I don’t think she knew she was going to talk to him about her core trauma, and suddenly and unexpectedly he was this safe place for her to say something that she had not been able to say to anyone, including Derek. Now she’s seeing him as this potential safe place. I don’t know how the hospital will be divided, but I imagine Amelia has some pretty affectionate feelings toward Alex right now that he was able to witness her in her darkest moments and in this unique way.”

Camilla Luddington gave an interview to Cosmopolitan recently where she talked about working with Justin and the storyline involving their characters, Jo and Alex. Below are the parts where she mentions Justin and the Jolex relationship (full interview can be read at the source).

Grey’s Anatomy Star Camilla Luddington on Jo’s Secret Past and Her Future With Alex

null

Cosmopolitan: When did you find out that Jo has this big secret?

Camilla Luddington: I didn’t know specifics for a really long time. Last season, Shonda [Rhimes, the creator] and I did have a conversation about diving into Jo’s past. In the finale of season 9, Jo does reference past abuse, and I had never known what that was. And I don’t know if they even knew then what that would end up being. So we had that conversation about trying to explore that, but I didn’t know when that was going to happen.

When I sat down for the table read for the episode, I found out everything — that Jo isn’t her real name, that she has a past marriage, that he abused her, that she was still technically married. That was all at the table read. And nobody else knew either! People think that we know a lot of stuff ahead of time, but [the writers] enjoy us finding out at the table read. So there was like actual shock and Justin [Chambers, who plays Alex] was sat across from me, and he just shook his head in, like, complete disapproval! I was like, “I’m so sorry! I didn’t know!”

Obviously there are reasons for Jo to be really private about this, but it’s not like it’s something she’s done wrong. Why is she so afraid to tell Alex?

CL: Actually, right after the table read, I called the writers as I was driving home. It was swimming in my head and I had so many questions about it. I wondered why she hadn’t told Alex. They described it to me as — so, this person [that Jo is married to] was super charismatic, everyone loved him, and he’s beyond manipulative and beyond dangerous. She felt like her life was in danger when she left him and changed her identity so he couldn’t find her. He’s the type of person where if he did find her, whoever she’s with would also be in danger. And I think what she thought might happen with Alex is if she told him, he would have some sort of knee-jerk reaction and try to go after him or find him, in a way to protect her, but maybe not in the safest way to handle the situation. Then seeing Alex assault Andrew demonstrated that, in the heat of the moment, Alex can make really bad decisions.

Do you think that Alex and Jo are good for each other? I think about it all the time.

CL: You do? What’s your opinion? I’ll say mine, but I’m interested in yours.

I am…not necessarily a fan of them together. I think they both have great intentions, but they seem to trigger these insecurities or strong negative feelings in each other, and they have such a hard time communicating.

CL: Well, I think there are pros and cons to them being together. I think the pro is that they’ve had very similar experiences growing up. And actually, before these recent events, we’ve seen them be very understanding and not judging of each other’s pasts. I also think that the knowledge of the past for each of them helps them know when to dig deep and jab, in a way that’s extremely painful. They both put a wall up. But it’s hard not to root for them, because at the same time, they’re really in love with each other! But it’s so frustrating — Justin and I do scenes together where we get so frustrated because they can’t communicate or they aren’t listening or they just interrupt each other. But of course, that makes for perfect Grey’s Anatomy drama! It would be solved in an episode — or maybe two — if they did ever listen to each other. I don’t know if they’ll ever be good at communicating. But I root for them, even though I understand why some people think they can’t be together.

You and Justin have been working pretty closely together for most of your time on the show.

CL: Yeah. On a show like Grey’s Anatomy, when you shoot 10 months a year, 24 episodes, it’s hard not to get invested in your onscreen relationship. And so when we get to set, those [argument] scenes end up being really painful to film. There are a lot of times where at the end of a scene, we’re hugging and saying, “When are we getting back together? Please, please!” We feel that way, but the interesting thing about Grey’s Anatomy is that it almost feels like the relationships are a game of chess. You can be picked up where you feel safe and put somewhere else. You have to be ready for your TV life to be in turmoil at any point. I love working with Justin. We’re both so invested in this relationship… Sometimes it’s difficult, though, because he’s the one person on set who makes me laugh in my scenes. I feel so bad for the crew sometimes, because I can get the giggles just looking at him. It’s not very professional.

Jessica Capshaw’s character Arizona Robbins returns to Grey’s Anatomy in this week’s episode. Jessica gave a few interviews where she talks about Justin, the relationship between Arizona and Alex and how she’ll react to what he’s done. I’ve only posted the parts that mention Justin/Alex. The full interviews can be read at the sources linked below.

Entertainment Weekly

nullENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Arizona comes back to hospital in the midst of a lot of drama. How does she feel about what happened between DeLuca and Alex?
JESSICA CAPSHAW: I think ultimately — and why it’s such a great story — is that everyone feels conflicted. That’s the best part: There’s nothing conflicting about someone being hurt, so everyone feels for DeLuca because there’s nothing to not feel for. But at the same time, for such a beloved character with such a complicated history and tone to him, for Alex to be the one who assaulted him is just so heartbreaking, because you know him, so you know it was a mistake. Of course that causes friction and creates the drama. That’s what Arizona feels at the beginning — her love of Karev, their friendship, their professional relationship and having helped him at the beginning, and then her compassion and how she feels for Andrew, it’s her roommate, and just caring that he was so badly hurt.

How do you think this changes her relationship with Alex?
Maybe this is art and life coming together, but Justin Chambers is such an incredible actor and such an incredible human being. The nuances that he layers into his acting and the way that he portrays things, I don’t know that Arizona necessarily interprets of him going back to his thuggish days. My understanding was always how upset she was for having done it and jeopardized his career. Ultimately she knows, on some level, the pain that he has and the mistakes that he’s made. You can’t kick a dog that’s already down, and he is down. It’s not like he’s gotten away with it.

As the trial nears, how will the Alex-DeLuca situation further divide the hospital?
It becomes wondering who’s on whose side, who has to pick, if someone has to pick, and if someone has to pick, who that someone is, and what they mean to both of those people.

Justin mentioned he’d like to see Arizona and Alex working in the clinic together. Is that going to happen?
Oh, he just wants to work with me more. [Laughs.] We all love working together. We wouldn’t want to miss out on being able to work together just because he’s not able to be on the peds floor. That’s actually really fun. I’m so grateful. I wasn’t necessarily sure what Arizona’s medical evolution was going to be, but it’s so cool now because I think it’s true, but I’m not completely positive, that she’s actually the most certified doctor of them all with more specialties and does more things than anybody. That’s exciting. She gets to be able to step in on the peds ward, she can step in on the OBGYN ward, the fetal medicine ward, so it’s fun. Maybe she’ll head over to the clinic.

The Hollywood Reporter

Arizona is Alex’s mentor. How will she respond to what he’s done?

It’s ripe for contradiction and conflict for her. There was empathy, camaraderie and compassion with her roommate, Andrew. At the same time, she has a deep relationship with Alex, as a mentor, friend and confidant. Ultimately, when she first comes back, she didn’t understand how bad it was for Andrew until she sees him. It’s hard to reconcile that and it’s a little scary when you know someone you know so well does something so primal and unacceptable. There’s got to be so many different things you feel at the same time. Arizona is very connected to the empathy she had for Andrew and him being new and not having his people in place yet. And getting the shit kicked out of him, it’s awful.

DeLuca is Arizona’s roommate. Will she get stuck in the middle at all between her two main people?

I don’t know how all this will end up playing out. By the end of Thursday’s episode, you see from Alex that perhaps having Arizona come back is the last in a long chain of friends who have come and said, “You really messed this up and you did a horrible thing and you need to work your way back from it.” At the end of this episode, he says he’ll do whatever he can and Arizona believes him. She will be there for him through that.

TV Line

TVLINE | The preview for this week’s episode confirms that Arizona is pissed at Alex for assaulting Andrew. Is there more going on there than her just looking out for her roommate?
It’s funny, when I read the scripts that I wasn’t in, I felt like I wanted to know what Arizona was doing [when the Alex-Andrew melee went down]. Outside of Callie, Arizona has been closest to Alex. So I was kind of wondering if Alex would [reach out] to her. We find out in the episode that she heard what happened [while in NY], but she has no idea just how bad it is [until] she returns to work. And, when she sees just how bad it is, it really fires her up. And it worries her. Because anyone who can do something like that needs some help. Needs some assistance. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Does she feel caught in the middle?
She gets to sort of ride the middle. There’s an understanding that she might be able to both be upset at Alex and sad for Andrew.

Check out this sneak peek of Arizona and Alex’s re-encounter from tomorrow night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Entertainment Weekly published an article where Justin gives his thoughts about Alex being demoted and sent to work at the Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic in the most recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Grey’s Anatomy: Justin Chambers on Alex’s new move

null Alex’s fate still hangs in the balance after he beat DeLuca within an inch of his life, but the professional consequences began to mount during Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

In court, Alex (Justin Chambers) was dealt a serious blow when the D.A. decided to charge the veteran doctor with a felony. With the trial pending, and tension growing at the hospital with DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) returning to work, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) made the executive decision to send Alex to work for the short-staffed Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic — yes, it still exists!

“He’s going to be working at the Duquette Clinic, so let’s see what direction that takes him in,” Chambers tells EW. “He’s definitely going to serve something, and he’s got to find redemption.”

In fact, when EW hit the set, Chambers said Alex’s move is what the actor is most excited to see this season. “I think an interesting story’s going to happen there,” he says, noting that he hopes the storyline will provide an opportunity for Alex to work more with his former mentor Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), who is slated to return to the show next week. “Maybe there’s something that he can pull Arizona into at the clinic, something that’s important in pediatrics,” he says. “We’ll see.”

Giacomo Gianniotti (Andrew DeLuca) uploaded this video from the set of Grey’s and it features Justin and Camilla Luddington spending time with their fans. 😆

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ellen Pompeo discusses what it’s like for the four original Grey’s Anatomy stars to be in season 13, working with Justin and their friendship.
Below are the parts of her interview where she mentions Justin, read the full interview at the source.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Ellen Pompeo: There’s “No Talk” of an Endgame

nullThis season focuses on the original stars — you, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. What does that mean for Meredith and her journey this season?

It’s strange because when we’ve lost people from the show, you feel sad and you feel like, “Is it going to be the same? Is it going to be more fun?” But in a funny way, the evolution really helps us continue. And we’re finding our way. The writers are doing a great job. I don’t know what it is, but we’re having a great time. I think we’re all in a place — Justin, myself, [creator] Shonda Rhimes, Jim Pickens, Chandra Wilson — all the originals that are left. You go through a journey of 13 years and at this stage, you’re just so grateful that we’ve had the support that we’ve had. I mean, can you imagine the audience has supported us for 13 years? Some movie stars don’t get a career that long. And we’re on every week and people are still watching. We don’t take it lightly, it’s unbelievable.

From what we’ve seen in the season 13 premiere, Meredith is getting a lot of time early on with Alex.

Justin and I have such unbelievable chemistry. I would sit on the sidewalk with him for days and I wouldn’t have to do anything. He’s one of my closest friends. So to be able to get to act with him and to have stories that we get together all the time is a dream come true.

How will Alex’s arrest impact his reputation and the season going forward?

He’s going to get demoted at work. Justin is an unbelievable talent. He’s just so simple and present and he’s an amazing scene partner. I always say I’ve never had a scene partner like Sandra Oh; she was the most incredible scene partner. And Justin is right up there with her. I’m having a ball with him this season. All we have to do is look at each other and we really vibe.

In an interview published by Variety, Sarah Drew teases a bit of the upcoming storyline involving Alex. The full interview can be read at Variety, below are the parts related to Alex.

Karev got himself thrown into jail. Should we expect him to come back to work or is he really dunzo?

Sarah: I can’t tease anything because that’s the big cliffhanger! But I will say that I feel like this season we get a lot of Meredith and Alex bonding and being there for one another in really awesome ways.

How will Jo deal with Karev being in jail and DeLuca being beat up? Will she tell Alex the truth about her marriage secret?

I think that she is incredibly devastated that she created this scenario. Even though it’s not her fault obviously, if she weren’t in the situation she was in, none of this would have happened. It was all this massive misunderstanding, so I think she carries a sense of responsibly. She still obviously loves Alex, but also cares for DeLuca and is horrified by what Alex did to DeLuca — and also horrified that Alex thinks the things that he thinks happened, which are not true. It’s a really rough situation that she’s in.
